I had suffered with back pain for a number of years. Over the last two years this pain had referred down my left leg and I couldn't walk very far or enjoy exercise like I had previously done so. My GP didn't want to refer me, but instead I was advised to take painkillers and have even more physio. I got to the point where I just wanted to sort it out, it felt like I was getting nowhere and living in constant pain was no fun for me or my family. I decided to seek a private appointment and was recommended by a physio to see Mr Sundaram. I am so pleased I did. It has been 8 weeks since Mr Sundaram performed a decompression/partial discectomy and not only has the pain gone in my leg, my back pain has all but gone too. People have commented that I now walk upright and it has made a huge difference to my quality of life. Mr Sundaram explained everything and listened to my all queries. The after care was as good as the care before surgery. I would highly recommend Mr Sundaram.

I had been suffering for about a year with severe back pain and sciatica and getting nowhere with the NHS so had decided to investigate private treatment. I visited one consultant and left with no confidence in what he told me. A friend recommended I contact the Winfield Hospital and I spoke to Mr Sundarum there. He was much more measured and thorough with his examination and diagnosis and I was much more confident to use his information to decide to have my operation. It was a complicated procedure involving two decompressions and a spinal stabilisation. To expedite the operation he arranged for it to be done at the Nuffield in Cheltenham. His explanation and discussions made me feel confident that the operation would be successful. It was and 3 moths later I am very pleased to say I am recovering well and in a far better place than I had been for a year. I would like to thank Mr Sundarum for his care and the massive improvement in my quality of life.

Mr Sundaram saw me at a time where I had long-term sleep deprivation and persistent pain. Life was miserable! He was a true professional: sympathetic, understanding and courteous. Most of all, he listened to me. Scans were arranged and subsequently he talked me through the findings in a very relaxed manner and made sure I was well informed of both the results and possible treatments. I was treated with utter respect. Mr Sundaram explained medical terminology in a way that made sense to me. He ensured I had access to all the necessary information. I felt confident that I was in very good hands and able to ask questions at any time. In addition, Mr Sundaram has an amazing Secretary and an excellent team of medical professionals. The procedure and my recovery were exactly as he had described. For the first time in months I could sit without pain or discomfort, I didn't feel irritated or wiped out with exhaustion at the start of each day and best of all, no more sleepless nights! I am so grateful to Mr Sundaram. He has improved the quality of my life beyond explanation. My mobility has improved and with the recommended physiotherapy, I am now strengthening my back and waking up every morning with so much more energy and a smile on my face.

After 25 years of being fobbed off with increasing strength and greater numbers of pain killers, a new GP to my practice referred me to Mr. Sundaram. He immediately set up a program for me to follow resulting in a surgical procedure that has freed me of pain. I can now, only three months after surgery, walk over four miles. Not bad for a 72 yr old who struggled to make a cup of coffee without needing to sit. Mr. Sundaram has been polite and courteous throughout, taking care to explain thoroughly each step we took. He and his team have taken great care to make me feel relaxed in confident throughout.

After suffering with intense leg pain for over two years, I was recommended by a friend to see Mr Sundaram , initially he recommended a spinal decompression but after further x-rays he recognised the need for a spinal fusion. He explained the procedure carefully and put any fears I felt at ease. I am now 7 weeks post op - am pain free and able to walk 5 miles easily. I would recommend Mr Sundaram totally for his professionalism, compassion and his surgical skill. One of the best and thank you - I have my legs and my life back !

Quality Assurance
From November 2016, there has been a significant national change in the management of spinal disorders led by the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) project, NICE and the British Association of Spine Surgeon (BASS). This has led to better management of patients and the reduction of spinal procedures which have limited clinical benefits. This is not rationing by the NHS or by private insurance companies, but has been implemented to reduce ineffective procedures and improve the quality of the interventions we are delivering to further improve patient care. Mr Sundaram keeps up to date with the latest evidence and follows the National Spinal GIRFT guidelines in providing best care for patients. He is renowned surgeon with a low complication rate and excellent interventional outcomes. His outcome data is registered with the British Spinal Registry and shows excellent outcomes in the top 2.5% of surgeons nationally.
